Archontophoenix cunninghamiana, the Bangalow palm, is a tall, single-stemmed evergreen palm native to the rainforests and moist coastal creek lines of eastern Australia. It develops a smooth, grey, ringed trunk with a noticeably swollen base and a bright green, smooth crownshaft from which large, gracefully arching pinnate fronds emerge.
This species is distinguished by its heavily branched, pendent inflorescences that emerge below the crownshaft, bearing clusters of purple to lilac flowers in summer. These blooms are followed by bright red, fleshy fruits that attract a wide variety of native birds to the canopy.
