The Story
Plant Bio
The PJM group of rhododendrons are exceptionally hardy, small-leaved evergreen shrubs, celebrated for their profuse early spring blooms and excellent winter foliage color. They are a cross between R. carolinianum and R. dauricum. 'PJM Compacta' is a denser, more compact selection of the standard 'PJM Elite'. It features bright lavender-pink flowers and aromatic evergreen leaves that turn a striking mahogany-purple in winter.

Planting
How to Grow
- Choose a site with acidic, well-drained soil and good air circulation.
- Dig a shallow hole twice the width of the root ball.
- Set the plant with the top of the root ball slightly above soil level.
- Backfill with a mix of native soil and organic matter.
- Water thoroughly to settle the soil around the roots.
- Apply a layer of pine bark or needle mulch, keeping it from the stem.
Pro Tip
Unlike many rhododendrons, PJM varieties are quite sun-tolerant, especially in northern climates, which enhances their winter foliage color.
