What you do
Remove live, irrigated grass and replace it with desert landscaping (plants, rock or bark mulch) with drip irrigation, after SNWA approves a pre-conversion site visit.
Requirements
- Do not remove grass before SNWA completes the pre-conversion visit, or the conversion is ineligible
- Plants must cover at least 50% of the converted area at full maturity (only plants rooted in the area count)
- Drip irrigation required with filter and pressure regulator
- Rock or bark mulch required; any weed barrier must be permeable
- Permeable artificial turf may count as a mulch substitute; concrete, curbing, driveways and patios excluded from the area
- Sign a perpetual conservation easement barring reinstalled lawn, spray irrigation, pools and water features; violations can require repayment plus fees
- Tree Enhancement trees must be new, living trees from the qualifying list
- Business/HOA/multifamily over 10,890 sq ft need planning department approval and a notarized Authorized Signer Agreement
How to apply
