Plant Bio

Melaleuca fulgens, known as the scarlet honey myrtle, is an evergreen Australian shrub reaching one and a half to three metres in height, with narrow grey-green leaves arranged in alternating pairs. The flowers consist of prominent red or pink stamens grouped in claw-like bundles, forming cylindrical spikes along the sides of the branches from late winter through summer.

This species is distinguished by its highly aromatic foliage when bruised and its exceptional tolerance to coastal salt spray and dry soils. The woody seed capsules persist along the stems for several years, providing structural interest even after the colourful stamens have fallen.
